Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth. The appropriate design depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of remaining teeth and gums, comfort, function and treatment goals.
Dr. Raftacco will examine your mouth, discuss what you would like to improve and explain suitable options. She has experience in prosthetics and oral rehabilitation and can conduct the conversation in English or Spanish.
Full dentures
Full dentures replace all teeth in an upper or lower arch. Timing and design depend on the treatment plan.
Partial dentures
A partial denture may replace several missing teeth while working with remaining natural teeth.
Implant support
For some patients, implants may be considered to help support an overdenture or another restoration.
Adapting to and caring for dentures
New dentures can require an adjustment period. Follow-up visits allow the dentist to evaluate fit and make changes when needed. Continue caring for your gums, tongue and any remaining natural teeth, and follow the cleaning instructions provided for the appliance.
- Attend recommended follow-up visits to evaluate fit and comfort.
- Clean the appliance using the method your dentist recommends.
- Contact the office if a denture becomes damaged, loose or uncomfortable.
- Continue regular oral examinations even if you wear full dentures.
The ADA advises regular dental checkups and daily oral hygiene for denture wearers. Read ADA patient information about dentures.
Denture questions
Which type of denture is right for me?
A dentist must examine your mouth and discuss your goals before recommending a full, partial or implant-supported option.
What if my current denture no longer fits well?
Contact the office for an evaluation. Changes in fit or persistent irritation should be assessed rather than managed on your own.
Can the consultation be in Spanish?
Yes. Dr. Raftacco is a native Spanish speaker and provides bilingual consultations.
